Moota POW camp

Cockermouth

Gloria Edwards of the Kirkgate Museum Group has been researching the former Moota POW camp, and has produced a small book on the subject.

The Kirkgate museum group managed to get a grant to publish this under the Home Front Recall scheme (part of Big Lottery Fund), to commemorate events connected with end of WWII.

Under the terms of the grant, the first 1,000 copies of the book must be give away. All the free copies have now been distributed, but the book is available to buy at £5.99 via the museum group - museumgroup@hotmail.com, with name, address and contact phone number, or from retail outlets, including Cockermouth Library, TIC, New Bookshop, Derwent Bookshop (Workington), Bookends (Keswick and Carlisle).

We welcome any further memories or information relating to Moota.

The book has many photographs in it, including pictures of the wall paintings in the Chapel (which no longer exists). Four of these are shown below.
