Low Road
Cockermouth
An attractively landscaped public footpath and cycle-path running through the town. Built by West Cumbria Groundwork Trust, with help from volunteers drawn from far and wide, the Greenway runs along what used to be the overgrown and abandoned railway line, part of the Cockermouth, Keswick and Penrith Railway (opened 1865 closed 1972).
It provides Cockermouth residents and visitors alike with a peaceful and unchallenging walk away from the hustle and bustle of the busy town centre. Set into a restored bridge is a colourful mosaic, depicting famous figures, buildings and events from Cockermouth’s rich history.
The route goes from Low Rd (beside the Volvo Garage), past Harris Park to Strawberry How Rd (opposite the Strawberry How site). There are many access points along the route.
