On the north west end if the Lake District National Park is the charming town of Cockermouth, the birthplace of William Wordsworth and the gateway to some of the spectacular lakes in the district. There are several first class camp-sites in the area that give inexpensive and easy access to all the outdoor activities available nearby.

Wyndham Holiday Park is within walking distance of Cockermouth. It has excellent, very well maintained facilities for caravans including toilets and showers as well as pool tables, television and table tennis in the main building. This is a good place for families with a paddling pool and children's play area. Restaurants, bars and pubs are just one mile away. The mountains and beautiful Lake District are within easy driving distance. The season is from March to October. Dogs are allowed when kept on a lead.

Inglenook Caravan Park at Lamplugh is on the edge of the Lake District National Park. This park has won awards for Excellence and for their attractive environment. They are very near all the activities such as walking, swimming, golfing and climbing, fishing and pony trekking near the lakes and coast. They are open all year round and have serviced pitches for caravans that include electric hook-ups, hot water and showers, clean toilets, washing machines and dryers. They welcome dogs kept on a lead.

The Castlerigg Farm Camping and Caravan Site have spectacular views of the mountains in a secluded area, but is just 25 minutes walking time to the nearest town. The site has electricity, showers, laundry room, heated washrooms, shops and a café. It is a very restful place for families and couples. It gets excellent reviews for facilities, customer service and restaurants from people who visit there regularly.

Herdwick Croft Caravan Park has excellent facilities for touring caravans including showers, hard standings and toilets, electrical connections, launderette and chemical disposal as well as grey waste water disposal. The Lakeland fells are seen from the park and the surrounding countryside is quiet woodland area. This is a good base for exploring the lakes and mountains. Bassenthwaite Lake is just near the site. Restaurants and shops as well as superb family facilities are close by. Pets on a lead are allowed.

Scotgate Holiday Park has two main campsites with an impressive list of facilities. There are washing and toilet facilities as well as showers. A spacious games area for children and Wifi are available in the park. Close to the Lake District, the park gives easy access to all the outdoor activities as well as an indoor pool with wave machine and thrilling water slide. The caravan park has electric hook-up, waste water disposal, TV aerial socket and hard standings. There is a nearby water tap. The park also has a licensed tearoom and shop as well as facilities for the disabled.
